EWB Baseball Help
Getting Started
The easiest thing to do is click the PLAY BALL button and watch a game.
The default settings are:
- Auto-play: EWB manages and plays for both teams
- One Pitch mode: The simulator rolls up the count and you only watch the pitch where the play happens
- 9 Man lineups: I’m from a National League home town… what can I say?
When you’re ready to play your way…
There are three modes for playing (use the GROUND RULES on the MAIN SCREEN):
- Auto-Play: The computer simulates a game based on the teams and park you pick
- Manager Mode: Pick your team. Then, you set the lineups and call the plays. The computer controls the action
- Play & Manage Mode: Pick your team. Pitch and bat for your players. But, you can also manage the lineups and call the plays.
There are several ways to watch the playback of the games (Use SETTINGS):
Watch the action
- Four different views
- Select an old-fashioned computer game view (single camera) to a nostalgic look at the first “director” to manage the camera for a 3D sports game
Fast Simulations
- Run the simulator without graphics… games take just a few seconds
- Use either the Stats & Physics engine (invented here!) or just a pure stats simulation (no physics intervenes… taking the Green Monster right out of the equation!).
Scores of Stats
After playing a few games, check out REPORTS from the COMMISSIONER to see standings, batting and pitching stats. More reports coming soon!
While managing your lineups, click on a player and then touch the STATS tab under the player’s name to see their stats and ratings. In mid-game you can also see their status at the very bottom-right corner.

More on lineups
To move players from the bench, touch the player’s name to pop up a draggable name. Drag their name over the player you want to replace.
To move players within the lineup, simply touch and drag one player over another and they’ll switch.
To change positions for someone in the lineup, touch their name and then touch the POSITION tab (see above image)
NOTE: You cannot drag players from the lineup TO the bench. Also, once someone’s been removed from the lineup (after the first pitch in a game), you cannot put them back (those are the rules of baseball!).
Likewise, players that are resting or injured cannot be placed into the lineup. If you prefer not to have this limitation, change these options in the COMMISSIONER.
Bullpen management is coming soon.
Getting into the Action
Pitching
Pitching is a three step process. In each step a button appears in mid-screen. You can just touch it for the default behavior (fastball, down the middle, throw the pitch). Or you can drag it around to change the behavior of the pitcher:
- Step 1 – Type of pitch: fastballs, curveballs, sliders, and even and Eephus pitch
- Step 2 – Location: down the pipe or on the corners. The pitcher’s rating for accuracy impacts your ability to paint the corners. The automated batter might see patterns, so mix ’em up
- Step 3 -Throw the ball: Pitch, pitch out (use this for intentional walks too), or attempt a pick off
Batting
Simply swipe the screen (in the right direction.. you gotta be a switch swiper to play).
HINT: Touch the screen just as the menu bar drops off.
Fielding
Throw to any of the four bases by swiping:
- Right -> First Base
- Up -> Second Base
- Left -> Third Base
- Down -> Home
